Film Night
This long established tradition is usually a favourite with MA and PhD students.
Politics Seminar Series
This year's seminar series is in a new format to make it even more engaging to students and staff!
This weekly seminar series features presenations from Accademic Staff returning from research leave presenting their findings and sharing their experiences. It also provides an opportunity for PhD students in their 1st, 2nd and 3rd years to present their own work in a relaxed and informal environment.
The Politics Seminar Series also features presentations by early career Accademics at universities throughout the country called New Voices in Politics. These sessions provide an opportunity to listen to engaging presentations on a wide range of topics as well providing an opportunity to network with accademics outside of your normal circle.

Professional Development
The Professional Development sessions run once a month. These are seminar style events led by a member of staff in the politics department. Over recent years topics have included 'how to present at a conference', 'surviving the peer review process' and 'developing your theoretical framework'. The leader of the session is selected due to their experience in the area and the topics covered are useful for PGT and PGR students.
Reading Group
Is an informal gathering of the postgraduate students where articles, books and papers are being discussed on a monthly basis to give everyone time read the piece and participate in an active and vibrant discussion.
Current Affairs Forum
The Current Affairs Forum is a chance for staff, postgraduates and third year undergraduates to get together and disucss current events in the real world. Each month a topic will be selected and a postgraduate student or member of staff with knowledge of the area will be asked to lead a debate on the issue. This will be a very relaxed environment with no formal presentations. A few people offer an opinion and a discussion begins...
Coffee Morning
Now we all know how hard it is to get out of bed in the morning. Therefore once every month, we are giving a good reason. There will be free breakfast (continental style) in the Postgraduate Common Room. This will also provide a good opportunity for all Postgraduates to meet up with one another and catch up with what has happened over the last days or weeks.
